Booking tickets for the Colosseum can be a bit tricky due to high demand. Here are some tips to streamline your booking process and secure your entry with ease.
Tickets for the Colosseum can sell out quickly, especially during peak seasons. Pre-booking online helps you secure your preferred time slot.
Save up to two hours of time by buying skip-the-line tickets online instead of standing in long lines on the day of your visit.
You may miss out on a lot of crucial information if you decide to tour the Colosseum independently. Gain valuable insights and uncover interesting facts (did you know Jewish slaves were commissioned to construct the building?) and more with a guided tour.
Your entry tickets do not necessarily include access to all parts of the Colosseum, like the Arena floor or the Underground. So, buy tickets that specifically grant entry to those sections.
Most Colosseum tickets give you access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Don’t feel pressured to visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill on the same day. You have an additional 24 hours to cover these sites, so visit them at your leisure.
On the first Sunday of each month, entry to the Colosseum is free. However, note that if you choose to visit on this day, expect larger crowds and longer wait times to enter. There will also be no guide to accompany you. Access to the Arena and Underground won’t be available with free entry either.
The Colosseum’s first three levels are completely wheelchair accessible, and it also has accessible toilets. However, sections like the belvedere are not. Make sure to choose the ticket that allows you to experience the amphitheater to the fullest.
All tickets are nominative, meaning the name on the ticket must match your ID exactly. Ensure the details you enter during booking are correct and carry the same ID for verification at the entrance.
See the arena and the broken, gapped rows that once seated spectators. All tickets grant you entry to this level.
Visit the museum with graffiti, statues and remains of the animals that once battled it out in the arena. All tickets grant access to this level.
Levels 3-5
Usually closed to the public, these levels require special access tickets when open.
Once a sand-covered wooden battleground for gladiators and animals; entry requires a special access ticket and guide.
Discover where gladiators and beasts waited before entering the arena. Entry requires a special access ticket and a guide.
